The Challenge
A large Polish bank had been through successive agile transformations without realising the benefits. Ways of working varied widely across the organisation - pockets of genuine agility sat alongside teams operating as before - and IT and business remained fundamentally separate, with no end-to-end ownership of outcomes.
Our Approach
- Deployed a value stream based operating model, integrating IT and business under units that own both BAU and change work - making end-to-end accountability real rather than nominal
- Established a new governance model and used it to reallocate a 300M+ PLN project budget against value streams
- Redesigned the incentive system to reward outcomes rather than local delivery
- Onboarded the whole organisation and moved it to the new model in a single transition
Results & Impact
Outcomes
The redesigned operating model delivered significant impact, identifying savings of more than 100 million PLN. The transition was executed at scale, moving over 5,000 people to the new model in a single deployment rather than a phased rollout. Remarkably, this entire transformation - from design to full deployment - was completed in just 6 months, marking a record pace for a change of this magnitude.
