Bridging Operations and Technology in National Rail Corporation
Transportation
The Challenge
A national rail organization needed to modernize how safety-critical information was communicated, acknowledged, and assured across its network. A technology solution had been identified, but successful delivery depended on more than system implementation, it required changing how people worked, made decisions, and adopted new processes.
The technology partner was equipped to build the system but lacked the capability to drive adoption, align stakeholders, and embed new ways of working. Without deliberate investment in the human side, there was significant risk the solution wouldn't be adopted and the intended safety outcomes wouldn't be realized.
Our Approach
- Bridged technology and operations by acting as the conduit between the technology partner and frontline stakeholders, ensuring the solution was shaped by real operational needs and translating business and safety requirements into prioritized product requirements fit for purpose from day one
- Drove adoption through structured change by establishing a top-down communications approach, aligning leaders and embedding consistent messaging to reinforce adoption across the organization and 25+ external customers
- Enabled right-first-time delivery by working as one integrated team across business and technology to remove silos, accelerate decision-making, and reduce the risk of rework and misalignment
Results & Impact
Outcomes
By aligning people, process, and technology, the initiative delivered a 70% reduction in duplication, enabling right-first-time delivery across the board. More than 25 external customers were engaged and brought along on the adoption journey for critical safety projects spanning the network, supporting safety initiatives across over 10,000 km of railway track and infrastructure.
