Sam Fraser – Singapore

The Back Story monthly interview features ADAPTOVATE employees from around the world.

Our team is the greatest asset we have, and it’s a privilege to share just a little bit more about who they are. This month we feature Sam Fraser Project Lead in our Singpaore office.

First up – how long have you worked with us?

I started in October 2021

Why did you join us? Were you in the industry previously, or looking for a new career direction?

After almost twenty years in banking I wanted a change and becoming a management consultant was a way to broaden my experience across industries by working with diverse clients. Having led teams through Agile transformations and also mature Agile teams, I intuitively connected with those ways of working and wanted to help others find success and meaning through them.

How has your previous experience and career helped define where you are now? Would you have done things differently?

My career has been a story of many sideways moves, building up a generalist skillset across all kinds of functions and customer types as well as leadership, so even though I was from a single industry in some ways it was a good development ground for where I am now.

Which talent would you most like to have?

I’d love to be better at selling – some people are just brilliant at it!

What do you most value in your friends and in colleagues – and are they different things?

I value the same things in friends and in colleagues: loyalty, reliability, creativeness, fearlessness, and intellect

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Easy Sunday mornings with my wife and children, getting some exercise, the sun shining, good tunes, yummy food to follow.

What is your greatest extravagance

I’m always happy to spend on experiences like travel – sharing time with family and friends doing interesting and exciting activities in exotic locales.

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

From what we understand today Genghis Kahn was a pretty amazing person, unifying the tribes , founding the largest empire in history, and espousing the values of meritocracy, tolerance, diversity, and trade.

What is your motto?

Memento mori, or “remember that you have to die”. At first glance it’s morbid, but it unlocks so much insight into making the most of every moment we have on this planet.

Finally – You’ve time travelled back to your 10- year old self – What advice would you give?

This might be cheating, but I would say find great mentors who inspire you, seek their advice, and follow it if it resonates.
