Sonakshi Samaga – Canada

The Back Story monthly interview features ADAPTOVATE employees from around the world.

Our team is the greatest asset we have, and it’s a privilege to share just a little bit more about who they are. This month we feature Sonakshi Samaga, a Graduate Consultant in our Canadian team.

First up – how long have you worked with us?

I started in November 2021

Why did you join us? Were you in the industry previously, or looking for a new career direction?

Prior to joining ADAPTOVATE I was a Strategy Consultant at a boutique consulting firm in Toronto. I came across ADAPTOVATE on my university job portal and it immediately caught my interest because it seemed different from other traditional management consulting firms.

To me the focus on business agility and innovation stood out because of the rapidly evolving environment we’re in and it showed me that ADAPTOVATE is not afraid to be the first at trying something new to keep up with what the market requires. Throughout the interview process, I learnt more about the work culture and the value we bring to our clients and it was exactly the kind of challenge that I was looking for!

How has your previous experience and career helped define where you are now? Would you have done things differently?

I came from a background in finance and pivoted to consulting because I wanted to work with clients in varying industries to solve their unique problems.

Throughout my career, I’ve interacted with various people and organizations that have helped me grow both professionally and personally so I would not change a thing. My experience has broadened my perspective and taught me how to truly be a lifelong learner.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

My idea of perfect happiness is to live in the moment and be fully present in the ‘now’. When I immerse myself in the present, the simple pleasures of life become more apparent and fulfilling.

What is your greatest extravagance

Buying toys and treats for my puppy is my greatest extravagance! Recently, spoiling my puppy has been a rewarding indulgence and I love to see the excitement on his face!

Which talent would you most like to have?

If having eidetic memory is like how they show in movies, that would be amazing!

What do you most value in your friends and in colleagues – and are they different things?

I value honesty in both my friends and colleagues. I find that having open dialogues help me build deeper connections with my friends and makes it easier to collaborate with my colleagues.

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

There are many historical figures whose traits I identify with and can’t pick one! In terms of who inspires me, I would say Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Although she had a quiet and reserved demeanor she was a significantly influential individual and made remarkable contributions to law and justice.

What is your motto?

Life isn’t about finding yourself its about creating yourself. Reminding myself that I have the agency to shape my life, make choices, and evolve in ways that align with my aspirations keeps me motivated every day!e.

Finally – You’ve time travelled back to your 10- year old self – What advice would you give?

Don’t be afraid to challenge things! In school, I was an A* student and was rewarded for being obedient and following things by the book. Over time I recognized the value I bring to the table is really by voicing my thoughts and engaging in healthy debates with people who have different perspectives.
