Lisa Markussen – Singapore
The Back Story monthly interview features ADAPTOVATE employees from around the world.
Our team is the greatest asset we have, and it’s a privilege to share just a little bit more about who they are. This month we feature Lisa Markussen from our Singapore team.
First up – how long have you worked with us?
I started in February 2021
Why did you join us? Were you in the industry previously, or looking for a new career direction?
The bar was set pretty high after my first job as a Design Coach for LEGO. When your daily work is playing with LEGO bricks, surrounded by inspiring people… where does one go from there? Cue ADAPTOVATE.
With a MBA fresh off the press, I was looking for a place to integrate my newly discovered business acumen with design thinking and coaching skills. ADAPTOVATE was that place.
How has your previous experience and career helped define where you are now? Would you have done things differently?
LEGO taught me the power of play: To cultivate creativity, foster connections, and create joy in our daily work. That power doesn’t end at adolescence, but can be the key to unlocking untapped potential within individuals and organisations.
At ADAPTOVATE, I have been able to build on this philosophy in a corporate context, learning to apply a test-and-learn mindset to address complex business challenges. And this is just the beginning…
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Hanging off the side of a mountain from nothing but my fingertips and a rope. Ending the day by a campfire, surrounded by my family and nature. That’s perfect happiness to me.
What is your greatest extravagance
Hobbies! I am a ‘Jack of all trades’, and as all dedicated ‘Jacks’ know, one MUST have the necessary equipment to commit to a new hobby. Climbing, diving, hiking, painting, skating… you name a hobby and I’ve got the gear for it.
Lisa Markussen climbing (with all the gear 😉
Which talent would you most like to have?
I cannot sing to save my life (as many a karaoke bar will testify), so I would love to wake up one day with that talent magically manifested
What do you most value in your friends and in colleagues – and are they different things?
Taking your time: Time to have a proper conversation, time to help someone through a hard time, time to truly immerse yourself in a project or a passion. The willingness and ability to take your time, is what I value most in both friends and colleagues.
Which historical figure do you most identify with?
Leonardo da Vinci: The ultimate proof that creativity begets creativity. His greatest achievements happened not as a result of isolated genius, but at the intersections of art, mathematics, philosophy, engineering and science. Like him, I want to live a life of learning, deriving innovation from the junction of different fields.
What is your motto?
“Wrinkles mean you laughed, grey hair means you cared and scars mean you lived”
Finally – You’ve time travelled back to your 10- year old self – What advice would you give?
One of the greatest skills to master is PRIORITISATION. You can achieve anything, but not everything. Explore what matters to you (not just to others) and pursue those with vigour and discipline.
